We are super excited here @ Boost Education to have finally completed our latest collaborative project for Graduate and Proficient Teachers. While we have a few projects on the go, we have spent the last few months putting this Kit together to assist teachers when applying for permanent and casual teaching positions!
The main focus of the handbook was to show teachers how to address selection criteria and use the AITSL professional standards when responding to job applications, as well as structuring their resume, cover letter and use our professional pyramid to ensure you respond to interview questions professionally.
This blog article is a 'sample' from the Handbook and will teach you how to set out your COVER LETTER that you should attach to your Curriculum Vitae or Resume.
COVER LETTER DESIGN:
Your cover letter is there for you to connect with your interview panel and provide truthful information about your abilities as an educator and what you could contribute towards the school. This one page document should summarise your response to the selection criteria by highlighting your strengths and professional experience that aligns with the open position.
In our Kit we show you a sequential order to complete a resume design, respond to selection criteria using the AITSL professional standards and writing a cover letter, that will make the process efficient and professional. The cover letter should be the final document you complete in the process, which is discussed more in the kit.
Your Cover Letter Must:
COVER LETTER STRUCTURE
Remember... no longer than one page!
Designing your cover letter will take practice and we suggest that once you have drafted up your cover letter, you seek the professional feedback from your mentor or an experienced teacher that you trust. If you are not successful in a job, we encourage you to also seek feedback on where you could improve in your application (this is extremely valuable feedback). Take all advice on board and at the end of the day, be confident in your own ability and ensure your letter and resume are authentic.
Completing against hundreds of other applicants can be daunting, but have faith in your own unique skills and attributes as a new teacher or beginning teacher because many schools are seeking passionate, young vibrant individuals who will bring enthusiasm and drive to their school!
Our FREE RESUME TEMPLATE that accompanies the cover letter can be downloaded from our store.
GOOD LUCK with your applications and while we all know seeking employment can be stressful and tiring, NEVER GIVE UP and stay focussed on your goals!
